Fermanagh is the part of Northern Ireland where solar makes the biggest difference to a household budget, and it is not because of the sunshine. It is because so many homes around Enniskillen, Lisnaskea and the lakelands heat with oil, run on a single-phase supply at the end of a long line, and have the detached roof space to fit a proper system. EECO Energy installs across the county from our base in Newtownards, Co. Down, and we treat Fermanagh as a planned run rather than a one-off trip.
Below is what we have learned installing in the county: the grid limits that catch people out, why batteries matter more here than in Belfast, and what farms and rural businesses can do that town houses cannot.
Single-phase supply at the end of the line. A lot of Fermanagh houses are fed by a long rural NIE Networks line. That caps how much you can export without an application: 3.68kW on single phase. Bigger systems are still possible, but NIE need to approve them first and sometimes limit export. We handle that application and design the system so the energy you cannot export goes into a battery or your hot water instead of being wasted.
Oil heating. Most of the county is off the gas grid. That means a solar system paired with a battery and a hot-water diverter or heat pump takes a bigger slice out of your bills than in a gas-heated Belfast semi. For homes thinking about a heat pump, we size the array to carry it.
Detached homes and outbuildings. Fermanagh roofs are generous. Bungalows and two-storey detached houses around Irvinestown, Kesh, Derrygonnelly and Belleek typically fit 12 to 20 panels on the main house, and a shed or barn roof can take more. Ground-mounted arrays are an option where the field is handier than the roof.
Farms and agricultural buildings. Dairy, poultry and storage units run power all day, which is exactly when solar produces. We install on agricultural roofs across the county and can advise on three-phase connections and larger exports. See our agricultural solar page.
Weather. Fermanagh is wetter than the east coast and the figures reflect that, but the difference is smaller than people expect. Panels produce from daylight, not direct sun, and a well-sited system in the county still generates around 750 to 850kWh a year for every kW installed.
Off-grid. For holiday homes on Lough Erne and properties where a grid connection is expensive, we design fully off-grid systems with battery banks sized for winter.
LONGi, JA Solar and Canadian Solar panels with Solis or Tesla inverters. Tesla Powerwall 3, Dyness and Soluna batteries sized from your bills. Solar-aware EV chargers, hot-water diverters and maintenance on systems we fitted and systems we did not.
Enniskillen and the whole county: Belcoo, Belleek, Ballinamallard, Brookeborough, Derrygonnelly, Derrylin, Ederney, Florencecourt, Garrison, Irvinestown, Kesh, Lisbellaw, Lisnaskea, Maguiresbridge, Newtownbutler, Rosslea, Tempo and the Lough Erne shoreline. Postcodes BT74, BT92, BT93 and BT94.
We have customers across the county, from Enniskillen out to the lakeland villages and a number of farms. If you want to speak to someone near you who has had a system fitted, ask and we will put you in touch. Project write-ups for individual Fermanagh installs are being added as customers give us the go-ahead.

Great support from Phillip who gave us the information we needed to decide on the system that worked best for us and for making sure the installation was a neat and tidy job. We are very pleased with how ECCO managed the process from our decision to installation and the aftercare they provide.Posted on Google

I was looking for ways of bringing down the cost of my electricity. My standing order of £90 plus per month and heading upwards. I contacted a number of companies for quotes including EECO where I met Philip Wilson who took time taking me through the whole process and what I could achieve by investing in solar. I decided EECO was my company of choice. Philip and his team took us through the complete process, and dealing effectively with any problems which arose which were minor. . My direct debit has gone from £95 to £69 a month in 1.5 months. I also have credit with my electricity supplier. That’s a result of. Philip is always available for advice. Wish I had done it sooner. I have not obtained any incentive by EECO this my true thoughts on Solar and EECOPosted on Google

Absolutely delighted with the service from EECO Energy from start to finish. A special mention to Simon Trainor, our client liaison, who was first class throughout. He was extremely responsive, explained everything clearly and continues to quickly answer any questions we have. From confirming the system, the full installation was completed within two weeks, which was brilliant. The roofing team and electricians arrived when they said they would and made sure everything was installed neatly and discreet. We shopped around beforehand and EECO also offered the best price for the system we wanted. The solar and battery combination has been brilliant. We're now at the point where, even on an overcast day, the house is basically running for free from the solar and stored battery power. Great price, professional installation and, most importantly, excellent service before and after the job. Would happily recommend EECO Energy.Posted on Google

Staff are great, big thanks to Simon and Deione, they guided me through the process, helped in every way, a 100% trustworthy company. Installation neat and tidy, roofers A+ electrical install again A+, after service excellent, just lift the phone and like Mr Ben they just pop out of nowhere to answer any queries. Biggest mistake should’ve did it 6 years ago.Posted on Google

EECO Energy recently completed a solar PV and battery installation at our home in Lisburn, and we couldn’t be happier. The roofing and electrical teams were skilled, tidy, and clearly took pride in their work. From the first conversation with Stuart, to the installation, the customer service was consistently excellent. The whole process was smooth, well‑explained, and professionally delivered. We’d happily recommend EECO Energy to anyone looking for a reliable solar installer.Posted on Google

Just had 11.7kw of Panels with a 16kw battery installed by Eeco Energy. It's been a great experience. Simon took the time to call out and spent almost 3 hours explaining not only the process, but the benefits of what he felt was the right amount of kit for our needs, which was to be as close to off grid as possible. The Solar panels (26) went up without any issues last Tuesday and on Thursday the electricians came and installed the battery, inverter and Iboost for the hot water. All the installers were friendly and courteous doing a swift and efficient install and keeping me informed of what they were doing throughout the day. When it first went live, and for a brief period, the app showed a solar generation of 11,500watts from an 11,700 watt array! In the 3 days since, we have drawn virtually no electric from the grid, but sold energy back ( although waiting for our G99 application for electricity buyback to complete). We have our house running on solar, the battery fully charged by midday, and the hot water tank full after a few hours. At night, the battery has been powering the whole house, and we have seen 39% to 40% battery remaining in the morning as solar kicks in and starts the process over again. So far very happy and excited to see how it performs over an extended period, but I have every confidence in the install. Simon has been very quick to respond to queries afterwards as well. Highly recommended.Posted on Google

Fantastic service from start to finish, Stuart was excellent on giving all the information needed, the job was completed 4 days after we paid the deposit, both the panel installation team and electricians were great and the standard of workmanship was outstanding.
Yes. We group Fermanagh surveys and installs into runs so the travel is on us, not you, and it does not change the price. Our installers have been fitting in the county for years.
It limits how much you can export without approval, not how much you can generate. We submit an NIE Networks application for anything over 3.68kW and design the system so any export limit is covered by a battery or hot-water diverter.
Directly, through a diverter that sends surplus solar into your immersion so the boiler runs less in summer. Indirectly, by making a heat pump or electric heating affordable to run. Many of our Fermanagh customers cut oil deliveries to one or two a year.
Yes. We install on agricultural roofs across the county and handle three-phase connections. Daytime loads like milking, cooling and ventilation are a very good fit for solar.
No. Output is a little lower than on the east coast but a south-facing Fermanagh roof still produces 750 to 850kWh per kW installed each year, and the bigger roofs more than make up for it.
