Lisburn is the easiest place in Northern Ireland to put solar on a house. The city and its villages grew fast from the 1990s onwards, so a large share of homes in Lisburn, Hillsborough, Moira and Dunmurry are detached or semi-detached builds with wide, uncluttered roofs, modern consumer units and off-street parking. That makes for a quick install and a strong return. EECO Energy is 30 minutes away in Newtownards and Lisburn is one of our busiest areas.
This page covers what we see on Lisburn roofs, the commuter pattern that makes batteries and EV chargers worthwhile here, and the areas we cover across Lisburn and Castlereagh.
Modern roofs. Developments like those around Hillhall, Lagmore, Ballymacash and Moira typically have concrete tiles, trussed roofs and no chimneys in the way. A 10 to 14-panel system goes on in a morning. On the newest builds we check the roof covering, as some lightweight tiles need specific brackets, and we confirm the developer's warranty is not affected.
Commuter households. A lot of Lisburn works in Belfast. If nobody is home between 8am and 6pm, a system without a battery exports most of what it makes for a few pence a unit. A 10kWh battery or a Tesla Powerwall 3 holds the daytime generation for the evening, which is where the real saving is for a commuter home. We size the battery from your actual usage, not a rule of thumb.
EV charging. Driveways and commuting make Lisburn a natural fit for electric cars. We install solar-aware EV chargers that charge from surplus solar first, which turns a car into another battery for the house.
Hillsborough and conservation areas. Hillsborough village centre is a conservation area and has a number of listed buildings, as does Moira's main street. Listed buildings need consent, and in those conservation areas panels on a road-facing roof usually need an application to Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council. Everywhere else in the district, rooftop solar on a house is permitted development.
Grid. NIE Networks supply is generally strong in Lisburn and the villages, so export limits are rare. Systems over 3.68kW per phase, including most battery installs, still need an NIE application before fitting. We submit it as part of the job.
LONGi, JA Solar and Canadian Solar panels with Solis or Tesla inverters. Tesla Powerwall 3, Dyness and Soluna batteries sized from your bills. Solar-aware EV chargers, hot-water diverters and maintenance on systems we fitted and systems we did not.
Lisburn city and the whole council area: Aghalee, Annahilt, Ballinderry, Ballymacash, Carryduff, Derriaghy, Dromara, Drumbo, Dunmurry, Glenavy, Hillhall, Hillsborough, Lagmore, Lambeg, Maghaberry, Magheralin, Moira, Moneyreagh, Newtownbreda, Old Warren, Saintfield Road and Stoneyford. Postcodes BT27, BT28, BT26, BT67 and the Lisburn side of BT8 and BT17.
Lisburn and its villages are one of our busiest areas and we have customers in most of the estates listed above. If you want to speak to someone near you who has had a system fitted, ask and we will put you in touch. Project write-ups for individual Lisburn installs are being added as customers give us the go-ahead.

We are really pleased with the advice given to us by Philip Wilson on choice of the solar energy system that would be most advantageous to our needs. The installation of the panels and battery etc were carried out very efficiently and aftercare advice and support has been excellent.Posted on Google

Great support from Phillip who gave us the information we needed to decide on the system that worked best for us and for making sure the installation was a neat and tidy job. We are very pleased with how ECCO managed the process from our decision to installation and the aftercare they provide.Posted on Google

I was looking for ways of bringing down the cost of my electricity. My standing order of £90 plus per month and heading upwards. I contacted a number of companies for quotes including EECO where I met Philip Wilson who took time taking me through the whole process and what I could achieve by investing in solar. I decided EECO was my company of choice. Philip and his team took us through the complete process, and dealing effectively with any problems which arose which were minor. . My direct debit has gone from £95 to £69 a month in 1.5 months. I also have credit with my electricity supplier. That’s a result of. Philip is always available for advice. Wish I had done it sooner. I have not obtained any incentive by EECO this my true thoughts on Solar and EECOPosted on Google

Absolutely delighted with the service from EECO Energy from start to finish. A special mention to Simon Trainor, our client liaison, who was first class throughout. He was extremely responsive, explained everything clearly and continues to quickly answer any questions we have. From confirming the system, the full installation was completed within two weeks, which was brilliant. The roofing team and electricians arrived when they said they would and made sure everything was installed neatly and discreet. We shopped around beforehand and EECO also offered the best price for the system we wanted. The solar and battery combination has been brilliant. We're now at the point where, even on an overcast day, the house is basically running for free from the solar and stored battery power. Great price, professional installation and, most importantly, excellent service before and after the job. Would happily recommend EECO Energy.Posted on Google

Staff are great, big thanks to Simon and Deione, they guided me through the process, helped in every way, a 100% trustworthy company. Installation neat and tidy, roofers A+ electrical install again A+, after service excellent, just lift the phone and like Mr Ben they just pop out of nowhere to answer any queries. Biggest mistake should’ve did it 6 years ago.Posted on Google

EECO Energy recently completed a solar PV and battery installation at our home in Lisburn, and we couldn’t be happier. The roofing and electrical teams were skilled, tidy, and clearly took pride in their work. From the first conversation with Stuart, to the installation, the customer service was consistently excellent. The whole process was smooth, well‑explained, and professionally delivered. We’d happily recommend EECO Energy to anyone looking for a reliable solar installer.Posted on Google

Just had 11.7kw of Panels with a 16kw battery installed by Eeco Energy. It's been a great experience. Simon took the time to call out and spent almost 3 hours explaining not only the process, but the benefits of what he felt was the right amount of kit for our needs, which was to be as close to off grid as possible. The Solar panels (26) went up without any issues last Tuesday and on Thursday the electricians came and installed the battery, inverter and Iboost for the hot water. All the installers were friendly and courteous doing a swift and efficient install and keeping me informed of what they were doing throughout the day. When it first went live, and for a brief period, the app showed a solar generation of 11,500watts from an 11,700 watt array! In the 3 days since, we have drawn virtually no electric from the grid, but sold energy back ( although waiting for our G99 application for electricity buyback to complete). We have our house running on solar, the battery fully charged by midday, and the hot water tank full after a few hours. At night, the battery has been powering the whole house, and we have seen 39% to 40% battery remaining in the morning as solar kicks in and starts the process over again. So far very happy and excited to see how it performs over an extended period, but I have every confidence in the install. Simon has been very quick to respond to queries afterwards as well. Highly recommended.Posted on Google

Fantastic service from start to finish, Stuart was excellent on giving all the information needed, the job was completed 4 days after we paid the deposit, both the panel installation team and electricians were great and the standard of workmanship was outstanding.
Not when fitted correctly. We use brackets matched to your tile type, seal every penetration and provide the MCS certificate and electrical certificate the developer or NHBC would ask for. We fit on new builds every week.
For a commuter household it is usually the single biggest factor in the return. Without one you export most of your daytime generation for a few pence per unit; with one you use it yourself in the evening at full retail price.
Yes, and it is cheaper done together because the electrician is already there and the consumer unit is already open. We fit chargers that prioritise surplus solar.
On a listed building, yes. In Hillsborough village centre and Moira's conservation area a road-facing roof usually needs an application to Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council. Elsewhere in the district rooftop solar on a house is permitted development.
We are 30 minutes away, so survey slots are usually available within a week. The gating item is NIE Networks approval for systems over 3.68kW, which typically takes two to four weeks. Install itself is a day.
