FAQs

We’re here to answer all your questions

How much do solar panels cost?

For homeowners, the cost of solar panels typically ranges from £5,000 to £10,000 for a standard domestic system, depending on the size of the system and the specifics of your property. Larger or more complex installations may exceed this range, while smaller systems may cost less. This price generally includes both the panels and professional installation. If you’d like a more accurate estimate, fill out our form and we’ll price a system for you.

By installing solar panels in Northern Ireland, you can save approximately £50 to £180 per month on energy bills, depending on your system size, energy consumption, and electricity rates.

Over the typical 25–30 year lifespan of a solar system, these savings can add up to £15,000 to £25,000 or more, especially with rising energy costs.

Adding a battery storage system can further increase your savings by allowing you to store excess solar energy for use during the evening or night, reducing your reliance on grid electricity and maximising self-consumption. With a battery, monthly savings can rise by 20–50%, potentially bringing lifetime savings to £20,000–£30,000 or more.

Additionally, government incentives and potential income from exporting excess energy to the grid can further boost your returns. For a personalised estimate of your potential savings, fill out our form, and we’ll calculate a detailed projection tailored to your property.

Your home may be well-suited for solar if it has a roof with good exposure to sunlight, ideally one that isn’t heavily shaded by trees or nearby buildings. South-facing roofs are particularly effective in the NI, but other orientations can still work well. The amount of available space on your roof also plays a role. We’re happy to assess your property and let you know if solar could work for you.

The time it takes to get solar panels installed can vary, but the process generally includes an initial consultation, arranging any necessary approvals, and the installation itself. Once everything is in place, the installation usually takes just one to a few days. From start to finish, the entire process typically takes a few weeks, though this can vary depending on individual circumstances.

Currently, there are no government grants available for domestic solar panel installations in Northern Ireland. The previous Renewable Obligation Certificates (ROCs) scheme, which provided financial incentives, was phased out and closed to new applicants in 2017. However, the recently released Northern Ireland Energy Strategy aims to address climate change and promote renewable energy, which may lead to new incentives in the future.

For businesses, there are still opportunities for financial support through alternative channels. For example, the Energy Efficiency Capital Grant offers funding to support businesses and organisations in upgrading their energy systems and implementing sustainable practices. Grants of up to £150,000 are available to help businesses buy and install energy-efficient equipment, with the rate of support covering the total eligible project costs based on company size.
